Do we need a referral to book?
You can book without one, but a GP referral is recommended — it means Medicare rebates apply to your consultation and gives Dr O’Reilly your child’s history before you arrive.
How long is the first appointment?
Allow up to an hour. That gives time for a full history, an examination, testing where appropriate, and a proper conversation about the plan — without anyone watching the clock.
Will my child be tested on the day?
If testing will genuinely change the plan, yes — skin-prick testing is usually done in the first consultation, with results discussed the same day.
Is skin-prick testing painful?
It feels like a small scratch on the skin, not an injection. Most children manage it well, and we take it entirely at your child’s pace.
Should we stop antihistamines before the appointment?
Antihistamines can mask skin-prick test results, so where it’s safe we ask that they’re paused for three to five days beforehand. If that’s not possible, come anyway — we’ll plan around it.
My child had a reaction — should they still eat that food?
Stop giving the food until you’ve been assessed. Don’t “test” it at home. Bring the story (and photos if you have them) to the consultation and we’ll work out the safest path.
Do you see babies for allergy prevention, before any reaction?

What does an appointment cost?
Fees depend on the type and length of consultation, and Medicare rebates apply with a valid referral. Our team will give you exact fees and expected rebates when you book — no surprises.
